Gemstone Jewelry
A gemstone is a mineral, stone, or organic matter that is cut, polished, or both. All kinds of gemstones are used in
jewelry, from the most mundane of rocks to the rarest of diamonds. According to the U.S. Geological Survey,
"precious" gemstones (diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and a few others) possess the qualities of beauty,
durability, and rarity, whereas semiprecious gemstones may possess only some of these qualities. Some people
consider gemstones to have healing powers. I use various grades of semiprecious gemstones in my work.
